December Business Spotlight: Amana General Store
November 30, 2022
This month’s Business Spotlight is on the Amana General Store.
Built in 1858, the Amana General Store is a prominent historic landmark in the village of Amana. From the time it opened until 1932, the store served the community with all of its material needs that the communal society did not provide. Today, the store has become a family of businesses offering items from far off places alongside Amana and Iowa-made products. The store features Amana Coffee & Tea Co., an exclusive line of flavored whole-bean coffees and loose-leaf teas, and the International Christmas Market, a year-round holiday wonderland.
The Little Red Wagon, located next door to and operated by the Amana General Store, offers toys powered by old-fashioned play and imagination. The latest addition to the Amana General Store, Haus Maus Tees, offers a large selection of t-shirts, souvenirs, and gifts. No matter which of the Amana General Store businesses you visit, you will find something new around every corner!
Amana Society Marketing Director Jeff Popenhagen shares how South Slope’s fast and reliable internet is essential to customer satisfaction. “Shopping at the Amana General Stores is as much about the experience as the products,” he said. “We need to be able to handle hundreds of transactions in a day quickly and effectively. A reliable and professional checkout is an important part of our visitor’s experience.”
